Volunteering
Volunteers are the beating heart of Worcestser Street Kitchen. If you join our team we will make you welcome and do what we can to make it a rewarding experience.
Monday to Thursday we start to prepare everything at 2:30 p.m. with service at 6 p.m., and finishing for around 7 p.m. Our booking system includes slots of as little as two hours.

We feed around
60 people at each service with a hot take-away meal and pudding with a lunch bag for the next day.
Once a month we get a bigger than normal team of volunteers together and organise an ‘eat-in’ evening. Using the Salvation Army’s hall, we lay tables the way we would at home. Our guests come in before service and in the warm and dry can take the weight off their feet, have a hot drink, and socialise with each other and with our wonderful team.
👋 Our Volunteers
Hear what they’re saying
Our amazing volunteers make WSK an exceptional service, hear what they have to say and if you’d like to join them click here to apply.
Team Leaders
Our team leaders make sure that everything is in place for the service. This involves agreeing with the cook what food is needed and that everyone who is needed is available, opening the premises, coordinating the team’s work, making sure that everything runs smoothly, and dealing with the unexpected.
Cooks
Our cooks are responsible for delivering nutritious meals that people look forward to eating. We ask all our cooks to hold a current Level 2 Food Safety certificate (we can arrange this if required).
Kitchen Assistants
Our kitchen assistants mainly help cook with food preparation and keep the kitchen clean. Typically this a mid-afternoon slot
Servers
Our servers are ‘front of house’ interacting with our customers, serving, arranging tables, cleaning and clearing away ready for the next day. This is a late afternoon slot.
Apply to volunteer
If you’re interested becoming a volunteer, we’d love to hear from you. We will invite you to come and look at what we do, talk to whoever is there on the day, and decide whether it’s for you.
Whatever role you choose, we will give you a clear description of your role, any training you need. If you want a change of scene, you can try another role. You’ll also always have someone to go to if there’s anything you need to talk about.
How it works:
Our volunteers mostly sign up for a session most weeks.
We recognise that most people lead very busy lives and so we ask only that you do a minimum of only one session per month.
We ask you to book your slot at least one week in advance.
If something unexpected happens, we ask you to let the Team Leader know as soon as possible so that we have a chance to find someone else.
If you have children, we’re happy for you to take a break in the school holidays or if you go away.
We are ony able to accept volunteers over the age of 18.
Getting in touch doesn’t commit you.
